Katie Sherman is a journalist and an award-winning author who covers fine food and parenting—two things rarely related—in Charlotte, NC. She has been nominated a number of times for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. Her stories have been short-listed for contests through New Letters, The Same, Short Story America, and Yes Yes Books.
Sacrifice will become part religion, part mantra. My sweetheart, these are the secrets no one will share. Motherhood is a lot like staring directly at the sun, it's blindingly beautiful. The pain and the pleasure so intertwined you can't distinguish one from another.

The story of
Katie P. Sherman
Katie P. Sherman grew up in the coalfields of West Virginia. This inspired many of the events and characters within the collection.
Katie P. Sherman studied under Pulitzer Prize nominee, George Esper, at West Virginia University. He greatly inspired her tone and voice.
In 2016, Katie decided to attend Converse College and specialize in Fiction. She began creating a connected series of stories told from the POV of women in Appalachia. These became They Always Wave Goodbye.
- In 2018, "The Fairy House" was short-listed for both New Letters and Short Story America's Fiction Contests.
- Two stories within the collection were nominated for Pushcart Prizes.
- In 2019, the entire collection was short-listed for YesYes books Open Read Contest.
